Hobbies for the Autumn | How to embrace the season to the fullest
Embrace the Season: Exciting Hobbies to Enjoy in the Fall
I enjoyed the beautiful sun and summer breeze during the summer, but I also enjoyed the crisp and fresh air, darker evenings, and beautiful warm colors in nature in the fall. As the days get colder, nights get longer, and the air becomes crisp and chilly, autumn offers a fantastic backdrop for exploring new hobbies and making the most of the season. Here are some delightful hobbies I love doing during this season, and I’m sharing these for you to savor the flavors of the fall and immerse yourself in the magic of autumn.
We stayed at this beautiful traditional Norwegian wooden cabin in Beitostølen, Norway.
1. Going on a Cabin Trip
This is a very Norwegian thing, but we love going on a cabin trip for every season. It can be a wonderfully cozy and charming experience. During the fall, I think it’s one of the best times to enjoy the coziness and the rustic setting of a wooden cabin. There are so many cabins to rent, so choose one of your choices.
Many cabins feature fireplaces or wood-burning stoves, which are perfect for creating a warm and inviting ambiance. You could be lazy in the cabin, just watching some crackling fire in the fireplace. The sound of crackling logs and the dancing flames provide a warm and soothing atmosphere.
You could also surround yourself with nature. Cabins are often nestled in natural settings, surrounded by forests, mountains, or nearby waters. During the fall, the landscape comes alive with a tapestry of warm, earthy colors as the leaves change. The serene and picturesque surroundings provide a tranquil escape from daily life. Go on a stroll to enjoy what the fall presents. I recently went to Beitostølen for a cabin trip with my friends, and doing the “cabin things” during the fall was so fun.
Go for a little walk in the season and savor this moment
2. Hiking and Nature Walks
You don’t need to be in a cabin to enjoy nature though. You could just visit any nearby forest or mountains. Fall is the perfect time to take a hike or leisurely stroll through the woods. The vibrant foliage and cool weather make outdoor adventures truly enchanting. Just remember to wear a few more layers before walking out of that door. Once you have your warmer jacket and gloves on, you can truly enjoy the beautiful sight and the scent of the forest while going for hikes and walks.
3. Make Warm Beverages
I recently got an ice cream machine, but that is going to stay a little quieter for a while. It’s fall, and I want something warmer to enjoy than some cold ice cream, though many people enjoy that as well 😉 After coming back home from cold weather, a hot cup of tea would instantly warm me both inside and out.The chill in the fall air makes hot beverages especially enjoyable. I love sipping on hot chocolate, coffee, some black tea, and a matcha latte in the morning. Then after 2 PM, I opt for some drinks with no caffeine, such as herbal, berries, or flower tea. I feel so calm and at peace when I have hot chocolate in my hand, listening to some instrumental jazz, with some fire in the fireplace, and sipping the beverage. Drinking a pumpkin spice latte while listening to some jazz and doing DIY crafts – Now those are activities showing appreciation for the fall season.
4. DIY Crafts
Get creative with autumn-themed crafts. There are so many things you can do. Make wreaths, candles, paint, or embroidery. Create something that can add to your home! I am going to do all of it soon, preparing wreaths for Christmas (yes, it’s the end of October which means it’s November soon and that gets me into the holiday mood 😀 ), making candles as gifts or for my home with beautiful natural scent, and make some embroidery with the fall theme. Oh, how cozy it is to just stay at my warm home doing some crafts!
5. Decorate Home with Fall Decorations
When nature and our surroundings change their colors and views, we could also bring the theme inside our home. The decorations can be something small such as napkins with fall leaves illustrations, a warm light brown table runner, or even real pumpkins for decorations! I love going on window shopping for a specific season. Even if I don’t get anything, just looking at those things makes me so happy and gets me into the mood of the season. So go out and get inspired by nature and bring the fall into your home too.
6. Baking and Cooking
Delicious pizza made by Andreas. Look at the crust!
Last but not least, baking and cooking can be a great hobby for the autumn. Embrace the flavors of fall by trying seasonal recipes. There are so many delicious warm and filling dishes with seasonal fall ingredients such as pumpkins, squash, apples, cabbage, sweet potatoes, potatoes, and the list goes on. Bake some apple pies, make a pumpkin spice latte, or experiment with many of these seasonal ingredients. Norway, where I live, offers many beautiful root vegetables so I like to make soup with the root veggies, or even make kimchi out of celery and celery roots. They are quite scrumptious, my husband loves them!
I love cooking, but I haven’t mastered baking yet. The yeast fermentation process requires great knowledge and precision with temperature, balance of moisture and dry ingredients, sugar content, and duration. So I learned a lot from a good friend of mine Andreas from The Pizza Heaven. If you are serious about learning the basics of baking or making pizza at home, this is a great place to get started.
Embrace the season and find joy in these autumn hobbies. Whether you’re outdoors enjoying the natural beauty or indoors pursuing creative endeavors, autumn provides countless opportunities to make the most of this special time of the year. Happy hobbying!
