So I’m delighted to share all about it with you.
At the bottom of this blog post, I shared the other articles on Korean wedding topics for you to check out.
Then let’s get started with a little bit of a background story of a Korean wedding.
A Bit About Korean Wedding
Korea is a society that emphasizes family unity.
The wedding ceremony in Korea also heavily reflects that part of Korean culture.
Korean weddings also have a rich history within the ruling class, which expanded to common people in the late Joseon Dynasty and continues today.
Therefore, the Korean wedding has somewhat complicated (but rather short) procedures, including the wedding gifts.

Rich history in wedding traditions, joint families, and a formal yet short wedding ceremony are some of the features of a Korean wedding.

Introduction to Korean Wedding Hairstyles
Koran wedding hairstyles for both the bride and the groom are blends of elegance and sophistication.
Importance of Wedding Hairstyles
To be honest, I didn’t think hairstyles would make a big difference to my whole look. I could understand makeup could change my look, but what difference can hairstyle make? But when I got my hair done by the hair designer for my wedding, I realized that it was, indeed, very important. It made my whole look elegant, my hair looked so voluminous, and my tiara stayed on my head!
Then let’s start with some examples of Korean wedding hairstyles for brides.
Korean Wedding Hairstyles
There are different hairstyles for both the bride and the groom, but there is a common denominator for Korean wedding hairstyles – the natural, clean aesthetic.

Recently, there have been more and more “effortless looks” with some fine hair around the face in Korean wedding hairstyles (although there has been a lot of effort to create the look)!
Natural Clean Aesthetic
First and foremost, the natural, clean aesthetic is important for Korean wedding hairstyles.
Korean style, in general, focuses largely on a natural and clean look, from skin to clothing styles.
Then what are exactly natural, clean Korean wedding hairstyles? Here are two points that make the natural clean aesthetic of Korean wedding hairstyles.
-
Natural black or dark brown hair
Hair colors natural to Korean ethnicity range from jet black to dark brown hair. On the wedding day, both the bride and the groom would have this natural hair color.
Medium brown hair color could look great. But people who had dyed their hair to lighter colors might dye their hair slightly darker.
People with white hair would dye their hair to look youthful and healthy on their wedding days.
Of course, if your hair is naturally lighter, flaunt it! That is absolutely appreciated.
-
Well-maintained hair
There are many different types of wedding hairstyles in Korean wedding, but they are all well-put look.
Usually, they are either updo-hair or with soft wavy loose hair.
This also comes down to the nature of Korean hair – they are usually straight and easy to take care.
Korean ethnic group doesn’t have curly hair, so it is not common to have curly hairstyle on the wedding day.
-
Avoid bangs or hair on the forehead
Having a fringe or a bang is very common in Korea, but try to avoid having bangs or hair on your forehead!
It doesn’t look good in photos. It creates shadows on face!
Side bangs can work, like the bride in the photo above. I know it because I was the one who had some hair on my forehead… Yes, I learned it the hard way. There are lights that come directly from the ceiling, so it can create pretty harsh shadows.
Korean Wedding Hairstyles for Brides
Here’s a comprehensive round-up of wedding hairstyles prepared to ease brides’ worries!
Check out the styles and see which one you’d like to have. Then consult your hair about this picture.
Wedding hairstyles can be divided into two big sections: updo hair and loose hair.
Let’s look at the updo hairs first.
1. Updo Hairstyles
When in doubt, updo hairstyles at a Korean wedding are the way to go.
Updo hairstyles can show the beautiful feminine neckline and details of the wedding dress, making the whole bridal look formal and gorgeous.
Usually when doing an updo hairstyle for a wedding, it is done with some curls or rounded fine hair around the face to shape the face.
-
Low Bun
Updo hair with a low bun is the most common hairstyle at a Korean wedding. Having a low bun style will have your neck feel comfortable while creating elegant and calm look. It is a wedding updo hairstyles that many brides prefer because it is easy to try and its ease on neck. You can create a more natural effortless look by having organic shape like this!

-
Medium Bun
This clean and sleek bun is the best hairstyles to show the natural beauty of yours! This hairstyles reminds me of the flight attendants from Korean Air, they usually have this kind of gorgeous clean bun. Medium bun is aslo a great hairstyles to add volume to the shape of your head, clean and womanly. I have a pretty flat head shape, so I love a medium bun to give some natural volume on the back of my head.

-
High Bun
A high bun tied up high and neatly on your head can create a lively and cheerful look!
A high bun can look casual, so it is not as popular as other updo hairstyles at Korean weddings.
But if you want, you could also try a slightly low-high bun to create a more natural look. It’s gorgeous.
It is also a great hairstyle to show off your neckline and create a feminine silhouette.
-
Other Updo Hairstyles
Last but definitely not the least, you can also try an updo hair that is flat and braided or curled like this. It is more formal and takes more techinque from the haristylist, but it creates a gorgeous volume and shape!
I had this hairstyle on my wedding day, and I was very happy with the final look. I felt like having a flower decoration made with my hair.

DASHU Premium Mega Hold Super Spray 8.45fl oz
Dashu is a popular haircare brand in Korea, and this is a great spray that can hold your hairstyle throughout an important event. On my wedding day, my hairstylist used nearly a whole bottle of this hairspray to do my and my husband’s hair! Holding your hair is extremely important, especially if you are going to wear some hair pieces like a tiara and a veil.
2. Soft Wavy Hair Down
If you have long hair and want to have your hair down, here are some ideas for you.
Soft, wavy hair to create volume and a soft look is very popular on the wedding day.
Things to Consider Long Loose Hair on Wedding Day
a) Wearing a veil
If you choose to wear a veil on your wedding day, having your hair down can create static electricity, which can make your hair look messy.
b) Design of wedding dress
If you choose a dress with a beautiful design on the back, long hair might cover the design.
On the other hand, if the front of your dress is gorgeous but the back is open or low-cut, long loose hair can be a good choice.

-
Goddess Hairstyle 여신머리
This type of soft wavy hair with lots of volume are called “Goddes hairstyle” in Korea. It looks so feminine and elegant. This look can only be created with a hair iron, not with a perm or happen naturally.

-
Strong Wavy Hair
Not as popular or common, but some want to have curls that are tighter and bigger.
If you have long hair and want to create lots of volume and vibrant look, this could work beautifully.

3. Loose Short Hair
Even if you have short hair, you could still ask your hair stylist to create updo hair, which is the most preferred Korean wedding hairstyle. But you could still rock your loose, short hair on your wedding day if you like!
Short hair can show a variety of images, depending on how you add curls. This is a hairstyle that can create a delicate look as it reveals the feminine line from the neck to the shoulders. If you add C curls to the ends of your hair, like in the photo above, you can create an elegant and graceful look.
Keep in Mind…
Loose short hair could look less formal and create shadows on the bride’s face as she moves.

4. Half-Up Hair / Tied-Up Hair
Can’t decide whether you want to have your hair up or down?
Then, the half-up, half-down, or tied-up hairstyle can be a perfect choice for you!
You can have thick waves to show feminine beauty while securing your hair in place.
It’s a style that goes well for an outdoor wedding, too.
5. Hair Pieces
Hairstyles can be created with a variety of wedding hairstyles, including height, shape, and accessories, so many brides choose them for wedding photography or main ceremonies.

-
Tiara
A tiara is a popular hair piece choice at Korean weddings for a bride!
It’s your wedding day and you can feel like a princess with a tiara on. I loved wearing a tiara on my wedding day. You can check out some wedding tiaras made with cubic zirconia that are in great quality at a great price.

-
Decorative hairpins
Usually in white color for the wedding, there are so many gorgeous decorative hair pins for you to try.

5. Veils
There are many kinds of veils, and I’m not going into details here. But wearing a veil on the back (but not on the front to cover your face) is a very popular choice on a Korean wedding day. I wore my 2 m-long cathedral-style veils on my wedding day.
Korean Wedding Hairstyles for Grooms

The natural clean aesthetic hairstyles apply to grooms too.
Here are some key points to the men’s styling tips for Korean wedding hairstyles.
-
For Medium to Long Hair
Try not to have too much fine hair and fix hair firmly.
In Korean weddings, you bow to the parents and the guests during the ceremony. If you don’t fix your hair firmly, your hair can fall apart and get messy.
-
Side Bangs
Side bangs are a huge thing in men’s hair in Korea at the moment!
Have a side bang on one side of your face like the picture above.
-
Create Some Volume
Unless your hair is very short, create some volume to your hair using wax.

Tips for Korean Wedding Hairstyles
1. Get Help from Beauty Consultants
There are so many different kinds of beauty consultants in Korea – from personal skin tone checkers, hair stylists, and face-shape consultants, to beauty consultants.
So consult them to know your style, even if you are hiring hair and makeup artists for your wedding.
You can always tell your hair stylists about your preferences and styles.
2. Check Out Many Places
If you have time and resources to do so, I highly recommend checking out many hair salons and designers before your wedding.
Every hair salon has its style and every artist has different skills.
So the best way to find the style that you want is to get makeup from several places to find the place you like.
About Korean Wedding Makeup

I wrote in detail about it in this blog post below.

Korean Wedding Makeup & Hair Artist
I hope you learned the wedding hair and makeup styles in Korea so far. It’s really fun to try Korean wedding hair and makeup at home, but if you are a bride or a groom at the wedding, you might want to hire some help!
Hiring a Korean Wedding Makeup & Hair Artist
Most brides and grooms in Korea stop by makeup shops to get their hair and makeup done, then proceed to the wedding hall.
You can hire a makeup artist to come to your place and get makeup done in the comfort of your home. Then you could go to the wedding hall. The makeup artist will follow you to the wedding hall and keep revising your makeup throughout your wedding.
Wedding makeup and hair usually takes about 3 hours.
Some wedding halls offer wedding hair and makeup services, so you should check that before looking for an artist.
Usually, booking a makeup artist at a makeup shop in Gangnam, Seocho, and Jamsil (three popular districts in Seoul) costs approximately $200-400.
My Experience with a Korean Wedding Makeup & Hair Artist
The wedding hall I booked had offers that included the hair and makeup for the parents of the bride and the groom.
So that was checked off from my to-do list right away, thankfully. (One less thing to worry about on your wedding day, whew!)
I hired a hair and makeup artist for my groom and me to do the makeup at home.
I knew I would be too tired to go to the makeup shop very early in the morning to get the hair and makeup and then go to the wedding by 11:00 AM. (My wedding ceremony started at 11:30.)
She was also what was called a “helper” as we call it in Korean, who helped me with my dress and checked my makeup throughout the whole wedding ceremony.
She was basically a personal assistant who helped me with everything as a bride throughout the wedding.
Although she was kind and helpful, I wished I had more time and money to go get my hair and makeup done before the wedding so I knew what makeup I was getting from her.
The makeup I received wasn’t as exactly as I wished for on my one and only wedding day…
So if you have more resources to research and get your hair and makeup to your liking, please please do!
