Hello, welcome to my blog! Today, I want to share with you my lentil patties recipe. I cooked this recipe when I invited my aunt and uncle. My uncle, interestingly enough, has been vegetarian even before being a vegetarian or a vegan was a thing. I couldn’t understand why my uncle was a vegetarian when I was young and would tease him for eating only vegetables. Now that I am vegan (who has an even more limited diet than he does 😜) I like cooking some delicious vegan food for him!

When I made lentil patties for my uncle and aunt, my aunt asked me for the recipe so she could cook for my vegetarian uncle. I was so happy to hear that! This recipe is dedicated to my aunt and uncle.

This lentil patty recipe is a very easy vegan patty made with beans.

It is packed with so much protein and fiber – fuel yourself with plant power!

A bean patty is a patty that is made out of beans and is a very popular choice of burger patties for vegans and vegetarians. You can make bean patties primarily with all kinds of beans.

The beans provide a rich source of protein, fiber, and essential nutrients, making the patty a hearty and satisfying component of burgers, salads, and more!

I love bean patties because they are vegan patties that are so delicious and healthy!

The bean patty can be combined with a variety of spices, grains, and vegetables to enhance the flavor and nutritional profile. There can be an endless kind of patty combined with different beans, herbs, spices, and aromatics.

Varieties of Bean Patty

  • Black Bean Patty: The most popular bean patty is made of black beans. When mushed, black beans have a meaty texture that mimics the consistency of ground meat.
  • Mung Bean Patty: Mung beans are quick to cook, making the mung bean patty recipe super easy and quick! There is also a Korean savory pancake made out of mung bean sprouts.
  • Soybean Patty 동그랑땡: A soybean patty is like the Korean meatball made with soybeans I shared on my blog. It is packed with umami flavor!
  • Lentil Patty: Like mung beans, lentil beans are also very quick to cook. That makes the lentil bean patty a simple recipe to follow.

Inspired by Korean Meatball

I was inspired to make this lentil bean patty by a traditional Korean meatball recipe made with soybeans. Korean meatballs are called Dongeurang-Teng (동그랑땡) in Korean and it is a type of jeon dish, which can be translated as “Korean pancake.”

Jeon, also known as jjijim, is a Korean dish with a cooking method that involves cooking ingredients such as fish, lean meat, tofu, or thinly sliced vegetables in a thin batter with oil in a frying pan. It is usually very thin and wide, more like a crêpe than a pancake.

There are many different types of pancakes, but you can think of the Korean meatball as a meat cake made by finely mincing meat and/or with tofu and other vegetables, aromatics, and seasoning. You can form it into small flat meatballs, coat it with flour or rice flour, and fry it.

About Lentil Patty Recipe

Lentil bean patty is one of the easiest vegan bean patty recipes I’ve tried so far. Lentils are quick to cook, especially if you soak them in water before cooking, making recipes including lentils so easy!

There are many kinds of lentils, and each lentil variety has its characteristics.

Lentil Bean Varieties

  • Orange lentil beans:

I recommend using this orange lentil beans for this recipe for its appetizing color, nutty taste, and soft texture. Orange lentil beans are also great for thickening the soups or stews.

  • Brown lentil beans:

Perhaps the most common type of lentils found in stores, brown lentils are popular for a reason! They hold their shapes fairly well and have a mild, earthy flavor.

  • Black lentil beans:

AKA Beluga lentils, these are small, shiny, black lentils that have a rich earthy flavor. They are pretty hard and hold their shape well during cooking, making them suitable as a garnish.

  • Other lentil beans:

There are other lentil beans like green lentils and Puy lentils. They tend to take longer to cook and have a firmer texture.

Using Rice Flour in Lentil Patty Recipe

One special thing about this recipe is that I used rice flour in this lentil patty recipe.

You can substitute it with regular flour or oat flour, but using rice flour in your recipe can have many benefits, as I wrote in my rice flour recipe blog post. Once you have hacked the code of using rice flour in a recipe, you can be creative with its use. Here are two main characteristics of rice flour and how it behaves in cooking.

1. Crispy Outer Texture

We all love the crispy outer crust or layer in many types of food, especially fries. With rice flour in your batter, you can make fries very crispy on the outside. Instead of using starch or flour for fries, you can use rice flour and achieve that crispiness.

2. Less Adhesiveness

Wheat is popular for its smooth dough due to the gluten structure in the flour. Rice flour, on the other hand, can make a hard dough that has low adhesiveness. It has hard and rough characteristics when it is made into a dough. Does that mean you can’t make dough out of rice flour? Of course, you can!

The trick here is to add hot water when you are making a dough with rice flour. That way, it will have a smooth texture when formed into a dough.

As a binder, using brown rice or whole-grain rice flour can be a great choice to include more whole grains in your diet. This is high-quality organic brown rice.

Easy Lentil Patty Recipe

Try this super easy lentil bean patty recipe! Vegan, healthy, and delicious.
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American, Fusion, Korean

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup Orange lentil beans
  • 1 cup Brown Rice flour Can be replaced with flour
  • 2 cup Water
  • 2 tbsp Flaxseed Ground
  • 2 tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Pepper
  • 1 tbsp Natural cooking oil

Method
 

  1. Wash two cups of lentil beans. Soak them in 2 cups of water and leave it for 30 minutes.
  2. Grind the flaxseed.
  3. Into a blender, put all the ingredients – soaked lentil beans with water, ground flaxseed, salt, and pepper. Blend until smooth. Have the mixture be roughly blended.
  4. Add a cup of rice flour and make it into a dough.
  5. Shape the dough into the size of patties you want.
  6. Heat the pan. Once heated, pour some cooking oil into the pan and distribute it well.
  7. Put the patties on the pan and cook one side. Once one side of the patty is cooked, cook the other side. Serve it hot with ketchup or soy sauce.

Using a lentil bean patty in a burger is a fantastic idea, especially for those looking for a nutritious, whole-food plant-based alternative to traditional meat patties.

Lentil bean patties are so easy to cook and have a delicious earthy flavor that can carry the flavor of other sauces very well.

They are also great in a wrap or served atop a salad.

2. A Vegan Side Dish

A lentil bean patty can be used as a great vegan side dish!

You can add seasoning and sauces in countless ways, making the lentil bean patties an adaptable side dish to various types of cuisine.

3. Serve with Dipping Sauce

You can never get tired of eating lentil patties when you have countless dipping sauces and seasonings to go with!

By trying out new sauces, you open up a whole new dimension of flavors and textures.

Tips for Lentil Bean Patty

1. Use Orange Lentil Beans

You can use any color of the lentil beans, such as black, brown, or green. However, out of all the lentil bean colors, orange lentil beans have the most appealing and nourishing appearance.

Of course, lentil beans are all healthy and delicious so if you prefer other lentil bean types, please go ahead 😉

2. Substitute Rice Flour with Flour

Brown rice flour is a great ingredient in the recipe, making the patty nice and crispy on the outside. But if you don’t have rice flour in your pantry, you can substitute it with flour.
