Ever dreamed of waking up to a serene lakeside view, surrounded by Norwegian nature in the cool summer breeze?
You might have already gotten sick of a scorching hot summer vacation in Southern Europe packed with other tourists. If you think of a cool, quiet, and relaxing camping holiday in the summer somewhere in Europe, then this post might be for you. Today, I want to talk to you about Sveastranda Camping in Norway with a Tesla 3!

Best Summer Holiday Destination in Europe
Lately, Norway has become one of Europe’s beloved summer vacation destinations—and for good reason. This year, so many European countries have been hit by heatwaves, and I see it all over the news. Many parts of Southern Europe have reached 40°C (104°F) already this year. Some places around the world are expected to reach their record high temperatures.

Norway, on the other hand, offers a refreshing escape with its cool and comfortable weather. Norway has a lot of coastal regions and lakes for those of you who love the water. We also have striking mountains in the inland. Not to mention the long summer days in Norway—it hardly gets dark in the summer. It is still bright at 10 PM in July.
So, if you are into long summer days, cool summer breezes, and peaceful retreats by the beach, lakeside, or mountains, you might love the road trips in Norway! I am a travel enthusiast and have traveled within Norway quite a few times. You can check out my other blog posts here.

Sveastranda Camping in Norway | Tesla Model 3 Camping
Here are my stories of what it was like to camp with a Tesla Model 3 at Sveastranda Camping!
Tesla Model 3 Camping
Choosing the right camping vehicle is one of the most important things to consider when camping. I am going to dedicate a whole blog post to camping with the Tesla Model 3, as I am so happy with it, but here is my short story.

This was our first time camping with the Tesla Model 3 with the Tesla Model 3 camping products—there were window shields and air mattresses. We weren’t sure how comfortable it would be, but the experience was surprisingly positive! With the seats folded down and cozy blankets and pillows we brought from home, we fell asleep without knowing it.

Going camping with a Tesla 3 is like having a small sleeping cabin on wheels. The peaceful natural surroundings by Lake Mjøsa (which is so huge you wouldn’t think it is a lake!) made our camping experience magical and soothing.
About Sveastranda Camping
Sveastranda camping is right by Lake Mjøsa, which is Norway’s largest lake. It is open year-round and offers a wide range of accommodation options, such as space for tents or camping cars, caravans, cabins, and even modern apartments!

It was really cozy to go around the camping site and see other people enjoying their summer in Norway. This is where you can rent a cabin at the camping site.

It has shared toilets, shower rooms, a laundry room, a small restaurant, and even a small grocery shop where you could find most of the essentials. You can also enjoy some recreational activities such as swimming, boat rentals, fishing, mini-golf, playgrounds, and small hiking trails. It seemed like a great place for a family with small kids!
How to Get to Sveastranda Camping
Address: Stokkevegen 147, 2825 Gjøvik
The camping site is in the middle of the towns like Gjøvik, Lillehammer, and Hamar. From Oslo, Norway, where we live, it took about 2 hours by car.
Aaaaaand, if you know us from our Trondheim trip from Oslo, we stopped by Espa Boller again, where they sell the world’s best buns!
Espa Boller: Falletvegen 11, 2338 Espa
This time, we got 9 dronning-boller (meaning “queen buns” in Norwegian), which had vanilla cream and cinnamon sugar sprinkles. If you are departing from Oslo to Sveastranda Camping, I recommend checking out Espa Bolleland on the way.
Prices & Booking Information
You can book it on the website, by phone, or as a walk-in. But I recommend booking in advance on the website. As of July 2025, when we went camping, we paid 455 kr for a night. But from mid-August, it goes as low as 360 kr per night!
If you want an electricity outlet, there is an additional charge. We didn’t get it, as we were to stay only one night, and there was no need to charge for electricity!

Our Sveastranda Camping Reviews
Here is our honest Sveastranda Camping review: It was a nice place for a peaceful, family-friendly getaway in Norway.

Family-Friendly Camping by Lake Mjøsa, Norway
Norway has so many beautiful waters—lakes, beaches, oceans, rivers, streams, and waterfalls. Located right by Lake Mjøsa, you could probably drive along the lake to get here, and it is a beautiful drive. It also means that you would be able to swim in the lake and fish in the lake.

On the left, there is a restaurant. You see boats here, and there is shallow water to swim for the family.
It was nicely maintained with clean bathrooms, a common BBQ place, and playgrounds for kids. It is certainly a family-friendly camping site.

You can take a walk by the stream! It is right by the camping site.
Relaxing Camping in Norway
We only had our car and an outdoor mat, but we thought it would be so nice to bring a tent next time! I think we were the only people with an outdoor mat and a car hahaha.

We booked a camping site with a view of the lake, and it was so lovely to just look at it. We didn’t have any plan, and that was perfect. We liked it that way.

We made coffee in the morning with portable gas and camping pans. Loved it! Why does coffee taste even better when you make it at the campsite?

Our Sveastranda Camping Experience: Final Review
Our Sveastranda camping experience was exactly what we hoped for—simple, quiet, relaxing, and refreshing. I’ve heard and read about some of the camping sites being noisy and a party place, and while I am happy for those people, I wanted a little quiet getaway in nature. The Sveastranda camping was exactly that! And it seems like a great place for families, as it has many family-friendly facilities like a shallow lake swimming area, a common BBQ place, a small restaurant, and a playground. And surely, there were many families with kids.
I hope this review was helpful, and I will see you guys next time with other camping experiences!
