So it is the season to indulge in the flavors of Christmas, and what better way to celebrate than with a festive and wholesome treat? In the spirit of the holidays, let’s dive into the recipe for a Berry Merry Christmas Smoothie, a beautiful red berry smoothie adorned with a luscious layer of white cashew cream and a sprig of fragrant rosemary for a final touch. This merry concoction not only captures the essence of the season but also brings a burst of nutrition and joy to your festivities.
Why Berries?
Berries are the healthiest type of fruit that exists on this planet. So many berries are superfoods. I love many other fruits, but berries are one of my favorites for this reason. I try to incorporate as many berries as possible into my diet. Also, the tart and sour taste and fresh scent wake me in the morning. So what other best ways are to start a morning with a smoothie with all types of berries? This is my all-time favorite smoothie recipe, not just on Christmas. After drinking this smoothie on a weekend morning, I feel like I have my energy fully charged.
Very Merry Berry Smoothie: A healthy & delicious recipe
This smoothie recipe is called Very Merry Berry Smoothie because there are all kinds of berries and the berries are all very happy to meet their berry friends! They are mingled, mixed, and blended to create this healthy yet delicious smoothie.
What is special about this berry smoothie is that I specifically chose berries and other ingredients that are high in nutrition and antioxidants that would boost the health benefits. Fortunately, I live in Norway, so wild berries are sold in almost any grocery store here and packed with much more nutrition than regular farm-grown blueberries. But feel free to substitute any berries that are easier for you to get. The most important thing is to eat healthfully, and eating any type of berries or fruit serves that purpose 🙂 I only try to include cranberries or lingonberries which are Scandinavian wild cranberries called “tyttebær” in Norwegian because they are in season!
The Ingredients
There is one berry that is a little harder to get at most grocery stores: the Amla berry, also known as Indian Gooseberry. I opt for Amla berry powder since it’s difficult to get fresh Amla berries where I live. It is one of the highest antioxidant-packed foods known in the world. Surprisingly, it is also a rich source of Vitamin C. Vitamin C is often destroyed while the berries are frozen, so putting Amla powder in your smoothie is a great way to add back Vitamin C that has been lost in the way! One important note for getting Amla berry powder is to get one with a container that doesn’t get the light through. Vitamin C is also vulnerable to light, so make sure your Amla berry powder has been stored well to preserve nutrients.
Organic Indian Amla Powder
There are 6 types of berries (7, if you also include banana which is a berry in a botanical sense) in this recipe. I took out raspberries and blackberries in this smoothie because they have big seeds that I don’t like in my drinks. Instead, I like to put them in my breakfast bowl or oat pancakes. Naturally vegan and dairy-free, this elixir keeps me full and energetic throughout the whole day!

Very Merry Berry Christmas Smoothie
Ingredients
Method
- Add the mixed berries, alma powder, cocoa powder, 1/4 cup of dates, and 1/2 cup of plant milk to a blender.
- Blend on high until the ingredients are smooth and well combined. If the smoothie is too thick, add plant milk to thin it out. Pour the red berry mixture into a cup.
- Add banana, another 1/2 cup of plant milk, 1/4 cup of dates, and cashews into a blender. Blend on high until you have sweet and decadent cashew cream.
- Pour the cashew cream on top of the smoothie. Decorate with a sprig of rosemary. Enjoy!
Tips
1. You can use 1 1/4 cups of any berries
One of the easiest ways to recreate this recipe is to use mixed berries. If it is a lot of work to get so many different berries, you can use 1 and 1/4 cups of any type of berries in total.
2. Frozen or fresh
Whether you want to use frozen or fresh fruits is totally up to you. I like to use frozen berries, as they are available all year round, and make my smoothie a slush consistency. But if you have fresh berries and fruits, use them! I would be jealous if you could do that 😀
