Course: Appetizer, Side Dish
Cuisine: Italian

Ingredients

  • 10 Pumpkin or zucchini flowers
  • 2 tbsp Cooking oil
Batter Ingredients
  • 1/4 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp Potato Starch
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 Sprinkle Turmeric Optional, for golden colors
  • 1/3 cup Water
Fillings for Stuffed Pumpkin Flowers
  • 1/2 cup Minced meat I used plant-based meat; see my recommendation above.
  • 1/4 cup Onion Diced
  • 1/4 cup Zucchini Diced
  • 1 tbsp Carrots Diced
  • 1/4 tsp Salt
  • 1 pinch Ground pepper To taste

Method

Preparing Pumpkin Flowers
  1. Take 10 pumpkin flowers. Place them in a washing bowl with cold water. Gently wash them with your hands. Remove pistils or stamens from the flowers. Cleanse.
  2. Gently shake off water from the flowers and place them on a rack to dry.
Making fillings
  1. Prepare an onion, zucchini, and carrots. Finely dice them and prepare 1/4 cup of onion and zucchini. You need only a tablespoon of carrots.
  2. Add the chopped vegetables to a bowl.
  3. Add 1/2 cup of minced meat to a bowl and season it with 1/4 teaspoon of salt and pepper to taste. Mix everything well. Set aside.
Making Batter
  1. Prepare a medium-sized bowl. Add dry ingredients to the batter such as flour, potato starch, salt, and optional turmeric powder. Mix well.
  2. Add 1/3 cup of water. Mix well.
Cooking Stuffed Pumpkin Flowers
  1. Prepare a cooking pan. Heat the pan to medium-high heat.
  2. Once the pan is heated, pour 1 tablespoon of oil into the pan. Spread the cooking oil evenly on the pan.
  3. Bring the clean pumpkin flowers and fillings. Roughly divide the fillings into 10 portions.
  4. Open a flower and add the fillings inside. Close the flower tightly and dip it in the batter. Place the stuffed pumpkin flower on the pan.
  5. Repeat the process until you have about 5 pumpkin flowers on the pan cooking. Check the bottom of the flowers, and if they are cooked well with a golden-brown color, flip them over to cook them evenly.
  6. When the stuffed pumpkin flowers are cooked thoroughly, place them on a plate. Repeat the process to cook the rest of the flowers.
  7. Serve them hot. Enjoy your seasonal appetizer!
