4 ingredients easy homemade taro ice cream recipe with taro powder

Hello, my beautiful readers! I hope you are having a great day. I’ve been swamped experimenting with new recipes and learning new topics lately, so I haven’t had much time to write blog posts. But here I am today, with a new, delicious taro ice cream recipe. Making ice cream at home can sound daunting if you have never tried it before, but it can be made surprisingly easy. In this blog post, I have included many different ways for you to enjoy the taro ice cream, whether you have taro at home or not, and methods to make it with and without an ice cream machine. This taro ice cream recipe is born from my wish for you to enjoy this wonderful and unique ice cream at home.

Without further ado, let’s start with the Taro ice cream recipe!

Introduction to Taro Ice Cream Recipe

Taro ice cream is a very unique ice cream made with taro, or more accurately, taro powder. There is a difference between these two! I will go over that soon below.

🍦 What is Taro?

Taro is a starchy root vegetable that is grown widely in Asia and Africa. Desserts made with taro have originated from Southeast Asian regions, and it has become so popular around the world. Taro has its own unique mild nutty flavor with a creamy texture that is perfect for dessert. However, taro can be used for savory dishes. In Korea, we add taro to spicy stew. It’s also so hearty and yummy!

🍦 Taro Powder for Taro Ice Cream

Although taro already has its unique nutty flavor and creamy texture, it is often opted out of taro dessert recipes. Interestingly enough, the taro desserts are now made with taro powder that has enhanced sweet taro flavor and colors. With only real taro root, you won’t be able to get the taro dessert or drink flavor you tasted at a shop. But to be honest, it makes it easier to make this taro ice cream.

You can find taro powder easily online. Here’s the taro powder I’m going to be using.

This is one of the most popular taro powders I could find! It not only tastes amazing but also blends well with liquid. It also has plant-based creamer that makes the drink nutty and soft and perfect for a vegan diet. This also has a beautiful light purple color when mixed with water.

Ingredients Needed for Homemade Taro Ice Cream

Here are 4 ingredients needed to make the homemade taro ice cream! You can use only three ingredients—cream, taro powder, and milk for the homemade taro ice cream. But to make it even better, I recommend using these five ingredients if you can.

  • Full-fat cream: You can choose any type of full-fat cream, including a plant-based version.
  • Taro powder: The start of the show! My recommendation is written above.
  • Milk: Like cream, you can choose any kind of milk. I chose soymilk for this recipe.
  • Salt: To taste.
  • Real taro: It’s optional but recommended.

2 Methods to Make Homemade Taro Ice Cream

Whether you have an ice cream maker or not, you can still enjoy this taro ice cream at home! I’ve included two recipes below; one without an ice cream maker and one with an ice cream maker called Ninja Creami.

1. With No Ice Cream Maker

You only need an electric mixer if you don’t have an ice cream maker! You can whip cream and freeze it to make fluffy, soft, melt-in-your-mouth ice cream! More details will be shared in the recipe below.

2. With Ninja Ice Cream Maker

There are many ice cream makers you can choose from, but I have a Ninja ice cream maker, and I love it! So if you have a Ninja ice cream maker, this recipe is even easier to follow. This is one of the best ice cream makers in my opinion; it makes ice cream easy, so quickly, and you can customize your ingredients. Moreover, it has 6 frozen treat settings.

Tips for Serving Taro Ice Cream

There are many wonderful ways to enjoy the taro ice cream, and I urge you to experiment with it on your own too! But here are some of my favorite ways to enjoy the taro ice cream.

1. Add Texture with Toppings

My husband loves to add lots of texture to the ice cream. Here are some of the lists.

  • Chopped almonds
  • Chopped salted peanuts
  • Chewy boba pearls
  • Any crushed nuts, e.g. macadamia or cashew nuts

2. Drizzle Syrup

My husband loves adding a crunchy or chewy texture to his ice cream, but I like to keep the simple, soft texture of the ice cream. So I love adding some syrup. Here are some of my favorite syrups to add on top of the taro ice cream.

Health Benefits of Taro Root

According to the research Anticancer and Immunomodulatory Benefits of Taro, there are many interesting health benefits of taro root. Here are a few key points from this paper on the benefits of eating taro.

  • Antitumoral
  • Antimutagenic
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Anti-hyperglycemic

Taro is also a great choice for a gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, and low-GI diet. This is why I recommend using some real taro in the recipe if you could.

  1. All these ingredients with zero sugar will probably fit only to ur taste mate. Greetings

    1. Hi, Bogdana! You are probably right in the sense that it is not for everyone. ☺️ As a vegan for 5 years now, my palate has changed. And these zero-sugar recipes work well for people with sensitive blood sugar levels, kids, and people who want to generally avoid sugar. But I am glad you still visited our blog! 😄 I wish you a wonderful day☀️🌿
