Hello, my beautiful people! How are you doing today? I’m doing alright, but not so well. I’m taking out my wisdom tooth today for the first time in my life! I knew that I had wisdom teeth underneath, but my dentist told me that those wisdom teeth wouldn’t be growing and that I didn’t need to worry. So I’ve been living my life peacefully for 30 years… and boom! Right there, my wisdom tooth on the bottom right part of my mouth decided to come out and say hi. I started to have swollen gum, bleed when I brushed my teeth, and got infections where my wisdom tooth was growing. I had to take it out. For a few days from today, I would only have to drink. So for today’s blog post, I want to share my taro latte recipe. This taro latte can be made in both hot and iced latte, which I shared my recipe below. I will be drinking a hot taro latte to comfort myself, and it’s a perfect autumn drink. (I recently shared taro bubble tea, taro smoothie, ube latte, and ube smoothie recipes on my blog. Those are also on my meal plan for a few days after extracting my wisdom tooth.)
Introduction to Best Taro Latte Recipe
Taro latte is a latte recipe that is made with taro root, milk, and coffee. Have you had taro milk bubble tea before? It has a similar taste but is slightly more earthy due to the coffee content. It has a sweet and round flavor with a soft and creamy texture that is unique to taro.
What Is Taro?
Taro Flavor
Taro has a nutty and savory flavor with a little bit of sweetness and a soft texture. The most similar root plant to taro would be potatoes, but taro is more creamy and has its own unique nutty taro smell.
Taro Flavored Milk
I had to introduce this to you all: the taro-flavored milk from Binggrae, a popular Korean beverage brand. This brand has many flavored milk that are popular among kids in Korea. I used to drink banana and strawberry-flavored milk sometimes as a kid, and now they have coffee, melon, and taro flavors. If you are interested, you could get this instead of getting taro powder and making taro milk for this recipe. Or, you could just enjoy this beverage if you like.

Health Benefits of Taro
Here are some interesting health benefits of taro that I learned from this research: Anticancer and Immunomodulatory Benefits of Taro.
- Antitumoral
- Antimutagenic
- Anti-inflammatory
- Anti-hyperglycemic
If we want to get these benefits from taro, we should eat real taro. So that’s also why I included the real taro as the ingredient in the taro latte recipe. This recipe makes the best taro latte!
Also, taro is a great choice for a gluten-free, vegan, vegetarian, or low-GI diet preference. So let’s look at the ingredients for the best taro latte!

Ingredients for the Best Taro Latte
I will go over the steps to make both the hot taro latte and the iced taro latte. For both, we will need the taro powder, fresh taro, and milk of your choice. I’ve found the blend of taro powder and fresh taro makes the best taro latte!
My Choice of Taro Powder
Taro Blended Crème Mix by Angel Specialty Products [3 LB]
This is one of the most popular taro powders I could find! It not only tastes amazing but also blends well with liquid. It also has plant-based creamer that makes the drink nutty and soft and perfect for a vegan diet. This also has a beautiful light purple color when mixed with water.
And for each hot and iced one, here are the different ingredients you need.
[For a Hot Taro Latte]
- Coffee: Espresso. Hot, creamy, and strong expresso enhances the flavors of the hot taro latte.
- Optional: Marshmallow
It is optional, but I highly recommend putting some marshmallows in your taro latte recipe. It’s like drinking hot chocolate without cream or marshmallows on top. You could, but it’s definitely better with marshmallows. For all of my vegan and vegetarian friends, I recommend using this vegan gluten-free marshmallow from Dandies.
[For an Iced Taro Latte]
- Coffee: Cold brew or espresso. Cold brew has a milder and fresher taste than espresso, which works great for the iced taro latte.
- Ice
- Optional: Whipped cream

Taro Latte FAQs
Q. Can I make a taro latte without taro powder?
A. Yes, certainly! Sometimes, I make my taro latte without taro powder too. But please note that it won’t taste like the taro latte or taro bubble tea you’ve tasted at stores or cafes. It will be healthier, though!
Q. What’s the difference between a taro latte and taro bubble tea?
A. Both taro latte and taro bubble tea have taro and milk, but taro latte has coffee. Taro bubble tea has no coffee and has boba pearls inside. Also, taro bubble tea is served as an iced tea most of the time, while taro latte can be served both hot and cold.
Q. How do I store taro latte?
A. This rarely happens to me as I drink my taro latte in one sitting! Hahaha. But if you want to store your taro latte, you can store it in the fridge for up to a day. It won’t go bad after a day, but it will start to taste a little sour from old coffee.
