Hello, my lovely people! I hope you had a great weekend. I had a beautiful weekend with my family. My parents came to Oslo to visit me! I made some homemade ice cream for them, and they loved it. So for today’s blog post, I wanted to share a delicious gelato recipe with you all that is healthy and delicious, something that you want to share with your family – the blueberry gelato recipe! I’m on a blueberry journey lately, and this blueberry gelato recipe is something that has been on my mind.

Introduction to Blueberry Gelato Recipe
I love this blueberry gelato because it is packed with nutrients and flavors from a high percentage of fruits. Therefore, it is low in calories. Yet it is creamy and dense due to its gelato process.
My blueberry lemon ice cream recipe is also light and packed with fruit flavors and nutrients! But the blueberry lemon ice cream has a more refreshing and fresh taste from the lemons, while this blueberry gelato has mild and soft flavors from vanilla beans.
I’ll tell you a little bit about how to make gelato and why this blueberry gelato is a healthy ice cream recipe!

Introduction to Gelato | Healthy Ice Cream Recipe
Gelato is a type of frozen treat that originated in Italy. And gelato is often a healthier alternative to regular ice cream. Let’s talk a little bit about gelato.
Characteristics of Gelato
Gelato is known for its dense and smooth texture and rich, intense flavors from the main flavoring ingredients.
Traditional Gelato
Traditionally, gelato is made with milk, sugar, and flavorings. Some custard-based recipes also include egg yolks. Gelato has a dense texture due to a slower churning speed than ice cream, so it has less air. This process gives the gelato its iconic dense and creamy texture, which is more intense than regular ice cream. Isn’t it so amazing that the creamy texture isn’t from cream? In fact, traditional gelato usually has little to no cream.

Gelato VS Ice Cream
Gelato
- Whole milk-based (Occasionally egg yolk included)
- Less air
- A dense and creamier texture.
- Low-fat content
- Stronger taste of flavoring
Ice Cream
- Cream-based
- Airy
- Soft and fluffy texture
- High-fat content
- Softer taste of flavoring
Vegan Gelato
After knowing these principles of gelato, I got to brainstorm what to do with my lovely plant-based products to make gelato. Something that can create a dense and creamy texture and intense flavor… I got it!
Let me introduce you to the homemade, fresh vegan blueberry gelato recipe.
How to Make Homemade Blueberry Gelato
1. Choosing Premium Ingredients
One of the best things about making something homemade is that you can choose the ingredients that you like. I also love using dairy-free plant milk and cream for my ice cream recipe. Lastly, I use a zero-calorie sweetener called erythritol rather than regular sugar.

2. Equipment Needed: Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker
You really don’t need a lot of equipment to make this delicious blueberry gelato! Just this Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker and a blender.
I got my Ninja Creami Ice Cream Maker about a year ago, and needless to say, I use it often and love it! It makes really good ice cream in such a short period of time, but there are some cons to having it, like the pretty big noise it makes. Why Is This Blueberry Gelato Healthy?
1. No Added Sugar
On top of that, I use a healthier alternative to sugar in all my recipes, so this blueberry gelato recipe contains less sugar.
This beautiful blueberry gelato recipe uses natural sweeteners instead of sugar! You will love the taste of the rich, sweet dates in the sugar-free blueberry lemon ice cream.

My Pick
ABRAHAMS & SONS Date Syrup, 100% Natural Date Syrup
We all know that sugar and syrup are not very good for you. But sugar in dates is different. First of all, dates have a lot of fiber and other antioxidants and nutrients. Compared to cane sugar, which only has simple sugar that spikes your blood sugar, dates are a whole fruit.
This date syrup uses 100% dates as the ingredients and is absolutely delicious and luscious!

2. Low-Fat
Gelato has little to no fat in its recipes. So it’s a healthier alternative to ice cream. (But it has a denser and creamier texture than ice cream; how wonderful is that?)
3. Nutrient-Packed Dessert
Gelatos have a higher percentage of flavoring ingredients than ice cream. So it has lots of blueberries in the recipe. This blueberry gelato recipe is low-fat, low-sugar, and packed with nutrients from the blueberries!
4. Raw Vegan and Dairy-Free
Last but not least, this is a raw vegan dessert recipe. Traditional gelato recipes include dairy and, sometimes, eggs. But this recipe makes delicious gelato without using eggs or dairy. You could substitute the plant milk with regular milk if you like, but I hope you give it a try with this recipe that uses oat milk. The natural sweetness from the oats is so mild and beautiful. Using plant milk is especially good for those of you who are lactose-intolerant.
So if you are vegan, lactose-intolerant, or health-conscious, this blueberry gelato is the perfect dessert for you!
