Introduction to Pumpkin Flowers Recipe
When I lived in Italy, I saw many pumpkin flowers sold in the markets. There are many variations to the pumpkin flower recipe, but the most popular way is to fry it either with or without stuffing inside the flowers. This recipe is inspired by the Italian dish “fiori di zucca ripieni.”

In Italy, cheese and fresh basil leaves are often used as the stuffing ingredients.
Fiori di Zucca Ripieni
It sounds fancy when it is written in Italian, but “Fiori di zucca ripieni” translates to “stuffed zucchini flowers.” In this dish, the stuffings can vary, but the most popular stuffings inside usually include some sort of cheese, such as mozzarella, parmesan, or ricotta, with seasonings like peppers or fresh basil leaves.
Some recipes include ground meat or chopped prosciutto, and that’s what I’m going to use in my pumpkin flower recipe—plant-based ground meat.
💡 Expert Tip: You could follow my recipe and season it with parmesan cheese or basil leaves if you like!
Pumpkin Flower Seasons
Cooking with seasonal ingredients like fresh pumpkin flowers is great in so many ways. Seasonal fruits and vegetables are full of flavors and nutrients and are only available during the season. Product I Used
If you are vegetarian or vegan (or have a friend or family), then you could use some of the plant-based alternatives for the minced meat for the recipe. Here are some products I use for the stuffed pumpkin flower recipe.
This is a really great substitute for any kind of ground meat for vegetarians and vegans. I love using this as this is easy to mix with other seasonings and stuff it in the pumpkin flowers.
This proudct is also a great plan-based alternative for ground meat! This is in a form of cooked meat though! So it can be a little difficult to put the stuffings inside the
flowers as they might fall apart. But it makes it easier and quicker to cook because you don’t have to cook the meat thoroughly.

I love using plant-based meat because it is also easier on my stomach and has fiber and other nutrients! Then let’s get right into the stuffed pumpkin flower recipe.
