Do you love plants? Me too! I love decorating my home, and while there are countless gorgeous interior pieces in the world that I appreciate, I think house plants are one of the best decoration items for your home interior. If you are looking for tall house plants, then you must be someone who agrees with me. I have had a few indoor plants both at my home and at the office that are tall. And these tall house plants are a commitment and an investment when you get them. They are not only more pricey, they are bigger. So if you don’t take good care of them, you will see big sad-looking plants at your place. But don’t get scared yet, they can be absolutely amazing! Let me reassure your decision to get tall house plants for your home with the reasons why you should get them, and recommendations of which tall house plants there are. Let’s dive right in.
Why You Should Get Tall House Plants
House plants are a great sustainable decoration choice for your interior design because they have many benefits for your home and the environment. And if they are tall and big, well, the benefits are also bigger!
Big Plants and More Soil for Better Air Quality
House plants can improve your home’s air quality by absorbing harmful chemicals and releasing oxygen. House plants can restore ecological balance by taking in carbon dioxide and supporting biodiversity. Not only that, they smell so wonderful. I love watering plants because as I pour the water into the pot, I can smell the soil in the pot better as it gets moisturized. It’s not just the plant that purifies the air, but also the soil! Research from NASA found that microorganisms in potted plants’ soil clean indoor air as well. And so the bigger and taller the plant, the more soil there is, and the better the air quality will become.
Mental Wellbeing
House plants can create a sense of calm and reduce stress levels by bringing nature indoors. There is much research out there that found a sense of calmness in people when they have plants to take care of. You can just feel it too. If you haven’t, get a plant and experience it yourself. There was a period in my life when I felt so lost and lonely. I would get so many plants for my home, and watering, pruning, repotting, and even having small talk with the plants helped me so much with my mood. There is this feeling that you are talking to a living creature that makes me feel like I am together with someone and something.
Sustainable Home Decor
House plants can add a pop of color and texture to your home, complementing any decor style. If the plants are big, they can certainly become a statement interior piece for your space. The tall house plant can be a beautiful decor piece that is natural and sustainable, and they come in many different sizes, colors, and designs. There are many kinds, but here are some of the plants that I had and loved. Here are my six recommendations for your tall house plants!
Tall House Plants | My 6 Recommendations for Sustainable Decorations
The tall house plants that I’m going to recommend to you here are approximately 2 to 5 feet (about 60-150cm) tall. You can of course get a younger plant if you want a smaller one, but there are plant types that don’t usually grow taller than 2-3 ft (60-90cm) like Peace Lily and Monstera I mentioned later in the post. There are even smaller ones like Boston ferns, but they are for another blog post to go dive deep into. I also talked about tropical house plants on my blog here, if you want to know more: Tropical House Plants | Recommendations and Tips for Home Interior.
Tall House Plants

This is a baby palm tree, but it can grow big. When it is about 3-5 ft (90-150cm) long, it looks hardy and robust.
1. Palm Tree
Overview
A palm tree is a tropical plant that has a long, slender trunk and a crown of large, fan-shaped, or feather-like leaves. Palm trees can grow up to 100 feet tall in the wild, but most houseplants are much smaller. Some common types of palm trees are date palms, king palms, parlor palms, windmill palms, and fan palms.
How to Decorate
Palm trees are popular as ornamental plants because of their exotic appearance and their ability to add height and texture to any space. Palm trees are such iconic plants to give off a tropical mood to your home! As they love the sun, why not place your palm tree near a window?
Plant Care
Palm trees are tropical plants that need plenty of light, water, and fertilizer. They also like high humidity and warm temperatures. You can place them near a sunny window or use a humidifier to keep the air moist. Fertilize them once a month during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertilizer. Prune them regularly to maintain their shape and look.

Look how gorgeous their leaves are! Dust off the leaves occasionally to appreciate their shiny green leaves.
2. Fiddle Leaf Fig Tree
Overview
A FiddleLeaf Fig tree is a medium-sized tree that has glossy green leaves with prominent veins and a distinctive shape. The leaves can grow up to 12 inches long and 6 inches wide. The tree also produces small white flowers and edible fruits called fiddleheads. The Fiddle Leaf Fig trees are native to Africa and Asia, but they have become widely cultivated as houseplants because of their beauty and air-purifying qualities.
How to Decorate
I love Fiddle Leaf Fig! This is not only a beautiful tall house plant, it is also a beautiful tropical plant. I mentioned this tree here as well: Tropical House Plants | Recommendations and Tips for Home Interior.
This plant is so popular for a good reason; You can grow this amazing plant from small to tall while not taking up so much space in width. The Fiddle Leaf Fig has dark glossy fiddle-like large leaves that can be a great decor to any sapce.
Plant Care
They need bright but indirect light, regular watering, and moderate fertilizing. You can dust off the leaves occasionally with a microfiber cloth to keep the gorgeous leaves shiny. Avoid repotting the plant too often as it might disturb the roots. It is best to keep them warm and avoid sudden temperature changes. It is a relatively easy plant to take care of if you live in a warm environment.

Snake Plants are so easy to take care of, and I love the unique texture of their hardy leaves!
3. Snake Plant
Overview
A snake plant is a hardy plant that has thick, sword-like leaves with green bands or stripes on the edges. The leaves can grow up to 3 feet long and 2 inches wide. The plant also produces small white flowers on long stems in spring or summer although it is rare. Snake plants are native to Africa and Asia, where they thrive in dry conditions. They are easy to care for because they can tolerate low light, drought, and neglect.
How to Decorate
Snake Plant is characterized by its beautiful green stripes all over their hardy leaves, adding such a great texture to the room. This tall house plant can look great in any space, but I particularly love it next to the TV or couch in the living room.
Plant Care
I mentioned that they thrive in dry conditions. Please allow me to repeat that. They really thrive in dry conditions! In the wintertime, I only water them once in a month or two. I only killed these plants by overwatering them. They can tolerate low light and very low temperature, although they will grow faster and taller if they are in a warm and bright condition. I often go on a long winter vacation, and I usually turn off heaters in the rooms. The snake plant is doing alright by itself at around 0°C (32°F) for three weeks. I love them!

Look at the knotted trunk and beautiful light green leaves on top of the tree. The money tree surely makes a statement decor piece for your home.
4. Money Tree
Overview
A money tree is a popular tall house plant that has glossy green leaves with silver or red markings on the edges. The leaves can grow up to 6 inches long and 4 inches wide. The tree also produces small white flowers on thin branches in spring or summer. Money trees are native to South America, where they are considered symbols of good fortune and prosperity. They are believed to attract wealth and happiness, making them a popular housewarming present.
How to Decorate
When it’s under 3 inches tall, you can put it by the windowsill if the window doesn’t get the indirect light. The money tree looks like a miniature version of a huge tree, so having it by the window adds a beautiful green touch to your home. And you will attract wealth and happiness through the window!
Plant Care
The money tree loves the warm temperature, lots of indirect lights, and much humidity. It can be a little tricky to grow this plant in a cold climate like where I live, but if you live in a warmer climate, just make sure to put this beautiful tree next to lots of light and remember to check the moisture in the pot often.
Medium-Tall House Plants
Here are two of the most popular medium-tall house plant recommendations for your home. When you were looking for tall house plants, maybe you were looking for more of up to 3 ft (90cm) tall plants, not 5ft(1.5m) and more! These plants grow just about 3ft and grow wider. The best part about these two plants is that they are so incredibly easy to take care of!

Peace Lilies have many of these elegant flowers during the summer and/or fall, but they don’t have any scent.
5. Peace Lily
Overview
A peace lily is a low-growing plant that has dark green leaves with white spots or stripes on the edges. The leaves can grow up to 12 inches long and 6 inches wide. The plant also produces large white flowers with yellow centers on tall stalks in spring or summer. Peace lilies are native to tropical regions of Asia, where they grow in wet forests near water sources. They prefer bright indirect light and moist soil.
How to Decorate
When they are full grown, they can be quite wide. I love the elegant Peace Lilies on top of a drawer in a bedroom or any kind of room. But as they are not very tall, they are the best when they are placed on top of something. Their luscious green leaves with white flowers and yellow centers make it easy to decorate with any space and style.
Plant Care
It is best to keep Peace Lilies in bright but indirect light, but they can tolerate low light. As this plant is native to wet forests, they need plenty of water. You can water them thoroughly when the top inch of soil feels dry. It is hard to miss when to water Peace Lilies though, because this plant will drop and wither their leaves as soon as they need water. If you water the plants right away, they will be back to life as if nothing happened! You can propagate new plants from their stems or leaves.

The leaves of Monstera make me feel like I’m in a jungle. I love them.
6. Monstera
Overview
A monstera is a large medium-tall house plant that has thick, glossy green leaves with holes or splits along the edges. The leaves can grow up to 18 inches long and 12 inches wide. The plant also produces edible fruits called soursops that have a sweet taste similar to pineapple. Monstera plants are native to Central America, where they grow as vines on trees or walls. They like high humidity and bright indirect light.
How to Decorate
Monstera reminds me of a jungle. This plant is extremely easy to take care of and can get away with low light and low temperature, so you leave it in the corner somewhere. It adds extra texture and greenery to your home!
Plant Care
The reason behind the name monstera, which may have derived from the word “monstrum” meaning monster in Latin, is uncertain according to Oxford Plants 400. But many people including me speculate that it is because this plant can grow so big easily like a monster! You can search more about how to take care of this plant, but it is so incredibly easy- Make sure to water your Monstera when the soil has dried, and let it get some indirect sun. It will grow faster if you mist it regularly, but I’m not sure if you want to do that. This plant will grow faster than most other plants anyway, so I don’t do it. Getting lots of light will make interesting holes and splits on the leaves, so you might want to do that if you want.
Tall House Plants Summary
I hope this blog post gave you some ideas on some tall house plants for your home. Getting tall house plants is a bigger commitment and an investment than getting a small one. But it can be a great choice for your home! House plants are a natural and sustainable house decor that clears the air quality of your home and helps your mental health.
