We stopped at the Bangkok airport on our way back home in June, and I saw coconut milk matcha and coconut milk caffè lattes at some shops. I tried both of them, and they were surprisingly so good! It felt so tropical to have some coconut milk with matcha or caffè lattes. And although it was very good, I thought I could make it better at home 😋 and develop a recipe to share it with you all. So here it is, the creamy, vegan, sweet coconut milk matcha latte recipe for you all, so you don’t have to go to Bangkok to enjoy!
Introduction to Coconut Milk Matcha Latte Recipe
There are already many matcha latte recipes on the internet, like my oat milk matcha latte or vanilla matcha latte. But perhaps not this coconut milk matcha latte recipe. Looking for the best matcha?
As I make a lot of matcha recipes, I’ve learned that the secret to a great matcha latte lies in choosing the right matcha powder. Not all matcha is created equal, and using a high-quality matcha powder makes a difference in the final matcha latte. You might think good matcha is not as important in the coconut milk matcha latte, as coconut milk already has a strong scent and flavor. But I’d say it is still important, as good-quality matcha powder has a more vibrant green color and more chlorophyll!

Ingredients

- Matcha powder: Check out my top matcha picks!
- Sugar/syrup
- Water
Optional
- Coconut flakes, to garnish
- Ice cubes for an iced latte
Equipment Needed
To craft your creamy vegan coconut milk matcha latte like a home cafe pro, you need a few trusty tools. These tools will create the soft froth on top of the latte.

Here’s the equipment you need to make soft matcha foam and the milk froth.
- A bamboo matcha whisk (chasen) or a handheld milk frother
- A small bowl: To whisk matcha with water
- A small sieve: To sift matcha powder and prevent clumps
You can find some matcha whisk sets with ceramic bowl, whisk, holder, scoop, sifter, and tea towel like the one from Buucup Store.
I like using a handheld milk frother on busy days, as it is a quick and sure way to create foam! But a traditional matcha whisk set certainly gives you the authentic and aesthetic experience.
Health Benefits of Matcha
Besides the taste, the numerous health benefits ofmatcha are why I keep reaching for it and have developed many matcha recipes over the years. That way, I can always have my matcha in many different forms and enjoy the health benefits of it without getting tired of it.
So here are some of the health benefits of matcha.

Brain Boost
Several studies have found that matcha may help improve our focus, memory, and motivation thanks to its combination of caffeine and other antioxidants. It’s quite like how drinking coffee gives us a boost.
Supports Fertility
The compounds found in green tea, such as polyphenols, vitamin E, selenium, and more, can support reproductive health. If you know someone who might find this information helpful, please let them know!
Strengthens Bones
Matcha is surprisingly rich in vitamin K, which helps your body absorb calcium and strengthen your bones. Sip matcha, and let’s get strong.
Glowy Skin
Matcha is full of antioxidants that our skin needs to keep its elasticity and tone. That is the reason why you can find many K-beauty skincare products that have green tea or green tea extract as ingredients.
Here are some of the popular green tea K-beauty products, if you are interested!
- Green tea seed hyaluronic cream, Innisfree: A light cream made with green tea seed oil to hydrate and protect skin
- Calming serum green tea, Beauty of Joseon: Semi-transparent light green serum that is great for sensitive skin

Health Benefits of Coconut Milk
Coconut milk is a naturally plant-based, creamy, and flavorful milk used in many traditional cuisines in Southeast Asia. It brings a range of health benefits, which makes our latte experience even more enjoyable!
1. Healthy Fats for Energy & Feeling Full
Coconut milk, especially full-fat versions, is packed with medium-chain triglycerides (MCTs). It’s a type of fat that our bodies quickly use up for energy instead of storing it in our bodies. (This is also a reason why calorie-counting is not always the answer to a healthy diet!) Not only that, it keeps you feeling full.
After a good cup of coconut milk matcha latte, I feel so satisfied that sometimes this is the only thing that I need in the morning. You’ll know what I mean!
2. Naturally Lactose-Free & Dairy-Free
You’ll be surprised how many people are allergic to not only just regular dairy! Not to mention those with lactose sensitivity. Coconut milk is a naturally lactose-free and dairy-free milk choice for many people. And this coconut milk is so satisfying with deep flavors.
💡One tip from me—if you are making vegetable soup, try replacing regular cream with coconut milk. It is surprisingly so indulgent and flavorful!

Tips for the Best Coconut Milk Matcha Latte Recipes
Want to take your vegan coconut milk matcha latte from good to WOW? Here are my top tips to nail that creamy, dreamy vibe!
1. Sift Your Matcha for a Clump-Free Latte
I love my matcha, but not the clumpy one! Yes, I have had my clumpy matcha before, and it is not pleasant. It can happen, especially if you are a beginner, whisking matcha with a chasen.
Use a small sieve to sift your matcha powder before whisking it with water. This ensures a silky, frothy base that blends beautifully with the rest of your latte.

The one on the left is the full-fat milk I used. The one on the right is skimmed coconut milk. You can see that the one on the left is more white colored and opaque than the one on the right.
2. Full-Fat Coconut Milk for Creaminess
Make sure you buy a full-fat coconut milk, not the watered-down one. You can use the full-fat coconut milk in a can or paper packaging, it doesn’t matter. You need to check the labels to see if they are full-fat milk. I love Alpro products, but the coconut milk one had very little taste and was not adequate for the matcha latte.

You can also see from this picture that the full-fat coconut milk is thick with some sort of cream. The milk I used is Aroy-D Coconut Milk.

3. Whisk Matcha with the Right Water Temperature
There are two different water temperatures for each hot or cold latte.
For hot lattes, use water heated to about 175°F (80°C), which is just before boiling, to whisk matcha. This water temperature not only preserves matcha’s vibrant flavor and color but also keeps the hot matcha latte hot.
For iced lattes, cool or room temperature works fine. But if you are using a chasen to whisk it, whisk vigorously to avoid clumps.
4. Use Ceremonial-Grade Matcha
Using lower-grade matcha, such as culinary-grade matcha, is more forgiving in making coconut milk matcha lattes. But still, using great matcha powder would be how you can step up any matcha latte. My favorite is Ossuloc matcha powder from Jeju Island, South Korea.
